Setting Up Sources
In order to publish to your wall, you need to add a content source to RSS Graffiti. Click “Add source” to begin checking an RSS Feed for updates.
Feed Setup
Select a name for this feed source with the “Feed Title” option. If you have multiple feeds in your publishing plan, choose a name that will allow you to distinguish this feed from any others you have set up. If you are publishing posts in the standard style, the title of your feed is shown to your friends or fans, so choose a name that describes where the posts are coming from, like “Jonathon’s Recipe Blog.”
“Feed URL” is only configurable when you first set up the source. If you would like to change the feed URL, delete this source from the publishing plan and create a new one.
In posts published with the standard style, the “Source URL” is the address users will be directed to when they click on the feed title This allows you to choose a custom URL for the feed source link. This setting is not required, because by default we will use whatever link we find in your feed.
Scheduling
RSS Graffiti allows you to schedule how content from your website to be automatically published to Facebook. The following scheduling options are configurable in the basic tabs of the source settings window:
Update Frequency: How often should RSS Graffiti check to see if there is new content to post? This settings adjust the amount of time you would like RSS Graffiti to delay between each update.
Maximum Posts per Update: When RSS Graffiti finds new content to post, what is the maximum number of posts we should publish on your wall at one time? Choose the number that reflects the quantity of posts you would like to to publish from this feed at each update.
Post Order per Update: Should we publish the “Older posts first,” or the “Newest posts first?” Publishing “older posts first” ensures that all content will be delivered to Facebook. Publishing “Newest posts first” ensures only the freshest content reaches Facebook, but will potentially skip some older posts if the “Post Per Update” limit is less than the number of new posts available for publishing. Choose the option that best reflects your publishing goals: do you want to ensure that everything reaches your target, or only the freshest content?
Format Message
The formatting options in the advanced tab of the source settings window allow you to adjust the title text that is published alongside posts from this feed source. The following options are available:
No Message: Includes no additional message within the post. Use only elements provided from the RSS post.
Same as Item’s Title: The post’s title within the RSS Feed will become the title message on the facebook post.
Static Text: The text entered into the “Static Text” text box will become the message for each post.
Static Text + Item’s Title: Combines text entered into the text box with the title of the post from the feed into the title of the post published to Facebook.
For more information on post appearance, see How do I change the look of posts.
Time Filtering Options
The default behavior of RSS Graffiti is to post only new items that show up in a feed after it has been saved to your publishing plan. Time filtering options allows you to use the application to publish old posts. Change the “Cut-off date/time” to a point in the past where you want to RSS Graffiti to start publishing from.
For example, if it is 10 PM, and you post every day at noon, and you change the cut-off date/time to yesterday at 9 AM, RSS Graffiti will post yesterday’s post, then today’s post, then it will be caught up to the present.
